Boston Bruins 2015 first round selection Zach Senyshyn is not off to a great start to the young 2016-17 season and looks to snap a two-game pointless streak today as his Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds take on the Guelph Storm. Puck drops from the Sleeman Centre in Guelph, Ontario at 2 pm this afternoon.

In nine regular season game this year the 19-year-old Ottawa, Ontario native has only contributed goals in two games (4-1-5) and seems to be struggling offensively since being returned to his junior team after a decent NHL Bruins training camp. Senyshyn didn’t exactly have the best 2016 calendar year health-wise as he missed July’s Bruins development camp with a nasty case of mononucleosis and missed last months Bruins rookie camp with an emergency appendectomy.

A minus player for six of the nine games played he certainly has his opportunity to produce offensively with 40 shots on goal but has failed to create consistency on a Greyhounds team that’s also struggled out of the gate with a 9-5-1 record for third place in the OHL’s West Division and sixth place in the Eastern Conference. In 145 games in the OHL Senyshyn had contributed 76-41-117 numbers with his best year coming in the 2015-16 season when he posted 45-20-65 totals in 66 games.

Next season Senyshyn will take a major step forward in his continued development as he’ll be eligible to play with the AHL’s Providence Bruins or maybe make the ultimate leap to the NHL Bruins who are light on the right side and might have space on the roster to accommodate his arrival. No matter where he lands in his first year of professional hockey next season, there’s no doubt of his talents regardless of his slow start this year in the Canadian Junior level.
