The American Hockey Leagues Providence Bruins lost 3-2 tonight to the Springfield Thunderbirds who won their first game in the last six tries. This was a game the Baby B’s should’ve had, but the Thunderbirds were ready to play as soon as the puck dropped at the MassMutual Center in Springfield, Massachusetts.

The main spotlight of the game and media attention was the professional debut of Boston Bruins prospect defenseman Charlie McAvoy. The first round selection in the 2016 National Hockey League Entry Draft didn’t disappoint as he skated well with and without the puck adjusting to his new Providence teammates. Providence Head Coach Kevin Dean paired the first-timer with AHL veteran and Bruins Captain Tommy Cross, and the two worked well together in the defensive zone and created good offensive zone passes to each other even tho the team wouls never have a lead throughout the game.

I thought from watching the game myself that Charlie positions himself very well and takes advantage of his lower body strength to move the opposition around the defensive crease.  I thought he showed good mobility and possessed a quick 200-foot game. His second period assist to forward Jordan Szwarz at 7:44 was something to see, as shared below from the official AHL Twitter account.
