First Period

The Leafs went to the power play early in the game’s first minute as Charlie McAvoy took a cross-checking penalty. The Bruins killed the penalty as Jaroslav Halak made a few big saves. The Bruins seemed ready to go from the start as they played with some good physicality. There was tremendous tempo in the early going as both teams traded a few chances.

The Bruins seemed to get more possession as the period went on but not a lot of shots as they didn’t test Frederick Andersen too many times. Halak meanwhile was tested a bunch of times in the period but kept the game scoreless. After a scrum in front of the goal, both David Krejci and Jake Gardiner went to the penalty box, resulting in a four on four. Jakob Forsbacka Karlsson buried a loose puck off a pass from Pastrnak past Andersen to give the Bruins a first period lead.

Second Period

The Bruins had some good chances in the very beginning of the period as they looked to stretch their lead. The Bruins continued to skate well and play with pace which seemed to give the Leafs some issues. Gemil Smith drew a tripping penalty against the Leafs, giving the Bruins their first power play of the game. The Leafs killed the penalty despite the Bruins getting a few solid scoring opportunities.

The B’s went right back to the man advantage after Nazem Kadri tripped up Krejci. David Backes buried a power play strike after a nice play by Brad Marchand to double the Boston lead.

During the four on four, Gardiner took a boarding penalty to get the Bruins yet another power play. The Leafs would kill the penalty as the Bruins failed to extend the lead.

Much to the delight of some Bruins fans, Brandon Carlo dropped the gloves with Kadri towards the end of the period after a small scrum in front of the Boston goal.

Three Stars Of The Game

Third Star: Backes. Building off a solid performance on Thursday, Backes had another good game and scored a power play goal.

Second Star: Marchand. Number 63 was all over the ice the whole game and played his best game in a while as he totaled three assists.

First Star: Krug. His skating game was outstanding as the Bruins controlled the pace all night and Krug even added three points including his first goal of the year.
