On Thursday morning, the Bruins announced that forward Joakim Nordstrom had suffered a non-displaced fibula fracture and will be re-evaluated in about three weeks. Nordstrom sustained the injury during the 4-2 Winter Classic victory against the Blackhawks on Tuesday afternoon.

Nordstrom has skated in 39 games in his first season in black and gold after signing a two year deal in the offseason. He has posted five goals and two assists for seven points this season. Nordstrom spent time in Chicago and Carolina before coming to Boston. He set a career high in goals, assists and points in 2014-15 for the Hurricanes with ten goals and 14 assists for 24 points.

The Stockholm, Sweden native was originally drafted by the Blackhawks in the third round (90th overall) of the 2010 NHL Entry Draft. He made his NHL debut on October 1st, 2013 and scored his first career goal on October 11th, 2013 against the New York Islanders. Nordstrom won the Stanley Cup with the Hawks in 2015. With the injury, it could allow the Bruins to call up a player from Providence. Nordstrom has been a useful player for B’s this season despite the low point total. He’s played almost everywhere in the bottom nine, so the Bruins will definitely miss his versatility.
