With the Boston Bruins having some time off this week, the team will be keeping busy this month and next as they continue to work closely with the community. The Black and Gold are no strangers to teaming up with organizations that benefit those less fortunate.

GET YOUR PADDLES READY

Fans of the Boston Bruins will be able to place bids to play alongside their favorite player in the second-annual Patrice Bergeron’s Pucks and Paddles ping-pong tournament.  Aside from getting the chance to play with a Bruin, fans can also place bids to participate in the event with a member of the 98.5 Sports Hub radio station. The Boston Bruins Foundation teamed up with Bergeron and Co. to raise funds for the Floating Hospital for Children at Tufts Medical Center.

Last year’s tournament raised a total of $110,000, all of which went to the hospital. Fans had a chance to see the entire roster participate in the two-on-two single-elimination competition. The event also had patients from Tufts Medical in attendance.  As players were eliminated, the final saw both Brad Marchand and David Pastrnak (along with their partners) square off as they battled for the coveted inaugural trophy. In the end,  Pastrnak would earn bragging rights as he won the entire tournament. For those interested in testing their ping-pong skills against players or the guys from 98.5, click here for more information.

PJ DRIVE

The Bruins will once again team up with the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners, Cradles to Crayons and DCF Wonderfund to participate in the annual PJ Drive. Bruins Captain Zdeno Chara will host the charity event for the fourth time this year. Both Cradles to Crayons and the DCF Wonderfund are non-profits whose goal is to provide positive living conditions for children.

The PJ drive was first initiated by former Bruin P.J. Axelsson and his wife Siw in 2007. In its 12th year, the drive has provided countless children with new and unused pajamas. Since 2007, over 100,000 children have received pajamas. From February 1st to March 15th, anyone can donate by either hosting their own drive or by dropping off clothes at a participating library

The Bruins will also be collecting pajamas at the TD Garden during the February 9th game against the L.A. Kings. Fans that donate PJ’s or $10.00 will be entered into a raffle for a chance to win an autographed prize. If you decide you’d like to host your own drive, the top three organizations that collect the most will receive five tickets to an upcoming Bruins game on March 27th versus the New York Rangers or against Florida Panthers on Saturday, March 30th

Be Fit

The third annual BFit First Responder Challange will be hosted at the TD Garden January 27th. Both the Boston Bruins and the Bruins Foundation have held the one-of-a-kind event to raise awareness on the health and wellness of first responders. The event also supports The Hundred Club, Inc., a charity that assists families of both police officers and firefighters who have lost their lives in the line of duty.

Participants will have a chance to run through three different courses that suit their fitness level.  For those that are looking for a challenge will have a chance to run through the new Level 4 Rafter Run. Those participating are asked to raise a minimum of $300 dollars in order to be eligible for the event. Both law enforcement and fire/EMT personnel will start at 9:00 AM, while civilians start their course at 11:00 AM.  The teams who raise the most amount of funds will receive suite tickets to the Bruins vs San Jose Sharks game on February 26th.  An individual with the highest raised funds will also be awarded four suite tickets to the same game.
