First Period

A wild sequence in front of the Columbus net resulted in Jake DeBrusk banging home a bouncing puck off the top of the goal to give the Bruins the lead not even two minutes into the game.

A couple great saves by Tuukka Rask kept the Bruins ahead as the Blue Jackets mounted a couple of good answering shifts. The Jackets continued to get chances in the offensive zone but Rask continued his strong start to keep it a one goal game. The B’s got the majority of the possession in the first half of the period but had trouble with giving up a lot of odd man rushes to Columbus.

The Bruins started to get some chances in the offensive zone in the middle stages of the period as the Jackets became a little lax in their own end. The game started to become physical after Noel Acciari was hit hard into the end boards by David Savard but surprisingly no penalty was called. Marcus Johansson doubled the lead after a tremendous shift by the third line, giving him his first goal as a Bruin.

Second Period

The Blue Jackets opened the period with some good chances in the offensive zone but came up empty as they looked to get right back in it. Columbus continued their strong start to the period with more chances in front of Rask but the Bruins held firm, maintaining the two goal advantage. The B’s didn’t have the same offensive jump in the early going of the second period and failed to get many scoring chances.

Karson Kuhlman nearly tripled the lead with a breakaway opportunity but couldn’t slip the puck past Sergei Bobrovsky and the Blue Jackets responded with a great shift that resulted in a power play. 12 seconds into the man advantage, Alexander Wennberg was called for a questionable tripping penalty to negate the power play. Neither team found the back of the net on the four on four and the score remained 2-0. Another breakaway stop by Bobrovsky this time on DeBrusk kept the B’s from running away on the scoreboard.

Rask continued to have a good night in net after a couple of weak starts as he withstood a couple of big Columbus rallies to keep the Bruins ahead. Brad Marchand buried a loose puck in front to make it 3-0 Boston after a great shift by the first line with under five minutes left in the period.

DeBrusk made it a four goal game after a sweet feed from Kuhlman just 46 seconds after Marchand’s goal to give Number 74 his second goal of the evening. Joonas Korpisalo replaced Bobrovsky in net following the goal.

Third Period

Just 34 seconds into the period, David Pastrnak ripped a wrist shot past Korpisalo for his 37th goal of the season to make it a five spot on the scoreboard for the B’s. Marchand picked up an assist for his 100th point of the season, becoming the first Bruin to reach the plateau since Joe Thornton in 2002-03.

Marchand picked up an interference penalty under four minutes into the period as the Blue Jackets looked to get on the board. Oliver Bjorkstrand fired a rocket past Rask from the top of the circle to give him a goal for a sixth consecutive game.

Columbus went to the man advantage soon after the goal as Charlie McAvoy was called for a high sticking double minor to give the Blue Jackets a legitimate shot to get back in the game. The Bruins killed off the first minor penalty without much resistance, giving them some much needed momentum. Matt Duchene made it a 5-2 game after a nice cross ice pass from Artemi Panarin with 10:46 remaining.

The Bruins responded with a tremendous shift by the second line and Kuhlman knocked home a loose puck for his second career goal to give the Bruins a four goal lead yet again.

Final Score: 6-2 Bruins

Three Stars Of The Game

First Star: DeBrusk. The young winger was simply awesome in this game, burying two goals and being his usual energetic self.

Second Star: David Krejci. A couple helpers for the veteran center gave him a new career high for assists in a season as he turned in another good, solid performance.

Third Star: Rask. While not incredibly busy, Rask had a good, solid night in goal to stop the B’s recent two game skid.
