On Monday, Bruins defenseman Steven Kampfer cleared waivers, meaning he will report to the Providence Bruins. Yesterday, Bruins general manager Don Sweeney announced that the team had placed Kampfer on waivers for the purpose of assignment to Providence.

In four games with Boston this season, Kampfer has yet to record a point, but has a plus-two rating, two penalty minutes, and four shots on goal. In 35 games last year, the 31-year-old posted three goals and three assists for six points to go along with a minus-six rating and 22 penalty minutes. Kampfer also scored one goal in three playoff contests during last year’s campaign.

Kampfer spent three games with Providence last season during a conditioning stint while coming back from injury. In that span, the veteran blueliner notched a goal and an assist as well as a plus-three rating.
Through 252 AHL contests on his career, the Ann Arbor, MI., native 28-82-110 numbers. The University of Michigan product totaled 60 points in 147 collegiate games.
Kampfer was selected 93rd-overall by the Anaheim Ducks in the fourth round of the 2007 NHL Entry Draft, and on March, 2, 2010, Boston acquired him for a conditional fourth-round pick. Kampfer signed his three-year entry-level contract with Boston and joined the P-Bruins for the remainder of the 2009-10 campaign. He appeared in 38 NHL contests as a rookie in the 2010-11 campaign, recording 5-5-10 totals. During the offseason, Kampfer and the Bruins agreed to a two-year contract extension with an average annual value worth $800,000.
