Bruins General Manager Don Sweeney announced this morning that the team has placed goaltender Tuukka Rask on injured reserve and recalled goaltender Dan Vladar from Providence on an emergency basis. Check out Mark Allred’s piece on the recall of Vladar right here. The Bruins have also recalled forward Karson Kuhlman from Providence. Rask suffered an upper body injury during Tuesday nights loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets. He has posted a 17-4-6 record this season with a 2.27 goals against average and a .925 save percentage in 28 games.

Kuhlman has skated in eight games this season for Boston, going scoreless. He has also skated in four games for Providence this season, posting two goals and an assist. Kuhlman suffered a leg injury in October and has just recently become healthy enough to play. He appeared in 11 games for Boston last season, recording three goals and two assists and played in eight playoff games, scoring a goal and adding two assists.

The recall of Kuhlman shouldn’t surprise anyone as he had earned a varsity spot in training camp and simply just caught a bad break on a blocked shot. He should inject some life into the Bruins lineup and probably could play as soon as tonight when the B’s take on the Pittsburgh Penguins. As for Vladar, he’ll now become the backup behind Jaroslav Halak and he could see his first NHL action as early as this week.
