The NHL announced Monday that the Boston Bruins and Philadelphia Flyers will play an outdoor game at Lake Tahoe, confirming Elliotte Friedman’s initial report. The game will be held on Sunday, Feb. 21, as part of the league’s NHL Outdoors series.

The Colorado Avalanche and Vegas Golden Knights will also play outdoors at Lake Tahoe on Saturday, Feb. 20. Each of the four teams will wear their Reverse Retro jerseys.

Both games will be played at 3 p.m. without fans. NBC will broadcast the games in the United States, while Sportsnet and TVA Sports will carry the contests in Canada.

Boston and Philadelphia’s game will mark the 32nd outdoor contest that the NHL has held since 2003, according to the league. The league has hosted at least one outdoor regular season game each season since the inception of the Winter Classic in 2008. This season is the first since 2008 in which the Winter Classic will not be played.

The Bruins and the Flyers last met outdoors in the 2010 Winter Classic at Fenway Park, a 2-1 victory for Boston. Marco Sturm scored the overtime game-winner.

The game at Lake Tahoe will mark the fourth outdoor regular season game that Boston has participated in. Aside from 2010, the other two are the 2016 Winter Classic at Gillette Stadium, a 5-1 loss to the Montreal Canadiens, and the 2019 Winter Classic at Notre Dame Stadium, a 4-2 win over the Chicago Blackhakwks.

Bruins captain Patrice Bergeron is the only player currently on the roster to have played in each of the three previous outdoor contests. Tuukka Rask dressed in 2010, but did not play as he was backup to Tim Thomas, before starting in goal in 2015 and 2019. David Krejci played in the 2010 and 2019 games, but was injured for 2015’s contest.
