They came into tonight’s game looking to win in regulation and the Bruins convincingly won 6-1 over the Philadelphia Flyers. In their second match-up against the Flyers, Boston seemingly gained traction early in the game after getting on board first and never looked back as they easily defeated a tired Philly’s team.

GAME BREAKDOWN

Both teams opened the first period with a good bounce as the Bruins hustled first towards the Flyers net. The first few minutes saw little chances to score as Boston and Philly were feeling each other out. Trent Frederic drew a hooking penalty that gave Boston the first power-play of the night. Within seconds, new Captain Patrice Bergeron would slide the puck under Carter Hart’s pad, making the score 1-0.

The Bruins continued to bring momentum throughout the period with a missed scoring chance from Sean Kuraly. Philly looked to play more offensively as they had yet to record a shot on goal. As the Flyers continue to create some scoring chances, Boston’s defense quickly shot them down any chance they had. The Black and Gold wasted no time bringing their game down the Flyers Zone, forcing Hart to make some quick saves in net.

In the last five minutes of the period, Philly were buzzing around Boston’s net as the mustered some potential scoring set-ups. Boston had a lot of good offensive zone time, unfortunately there was mishandlings with the puck. The last few seconds saw a frenzy out front of the Flyers net, however the Bruins were unable to score.

END OF FIRST: BOS-1, PHI-0

SHOTS ON GOAL: BOS-10, PHI-4

The second period was underway and Boston looked to keep momentum on their side as they missed a chance to make it 2-0. Not to be outdone, Philly’s Kevin Hayes tied the score as he tipped the puck past Jaroslav Halak. Boston quickly answered back as newcomer Craig Smith wristed one in, giving the lead back to the Bruins 2-1.

Flyers were working to even the score however Boston continued to disrupt plays. The Bruins would be on the man advantage for the second time of the night but were unable to score. Charlie Coyle would be called for a tripping penalty, giving Philly the man advantage. Despite attempts at making plays, no score from the Flyers during the power play.

In the last two minutes of the period, Charlie Coyle netted one in after a helper from Trent Frederic making it 3-1, Boston. The Flyers anxiously tried to generate some plays however were unable to connect.

END OF SECOND: BOS-3, PHI-1

SHOTS ON GOAL: BOS-6, PHI-8

The Bruins continued to play better defensively as the Flyers opened the third period looking to avoid a back-to-back loss. Boston took advantage of a Philly defense misplay and the Bruins widened the gap. Brad Marchand would send a wrist shot past Hart, making it 4-1 Boston.

Momentum stayed on Boston’s side with the Flyers trying to play catch-up. The Bruins would be on the man advantage as Philly’s Marc Friedman was called for unsportsmanlike conduct against Trent Frederic. Brad Marchand would net his second goal of the night from a Nick Ritchie feed, lifting the Bruins 5-1.

A penalty was called on Boston’s Anders Bjork for hooking, giving the Flyers the man-advantage. Despite the penalty, Philly was unable to generate any real plays against the Bruins. Boston had more puck control and the game was lost for the Flyers. The Bruins would once again draw a penalty as James Van Riemsdyk got called for tripping. Within seconds into the play Captain Patrice Bergeron scored his second goal of the night, making it 6-1 Boston.

With minutes winding down in the third period, the Bruins stayed dominant as they limited Philly’s chances towards the net. The Black and Gold managed to keep the intensity down their end as they beat the Flyers. Jaroslav Halak would get his first win of the season against Carter Hart.
