In a statement much shorter than the “ref rant” Cassidy went on following the B’s Game Five loss to the Isles, the NHL just announced via their public relations Twitter page the following:
Boston Bruins head coach Bruce Cassidy has been fined $25,000 for public comments critical of the officiating following Game 5 of the Second Round series against the New York Islanders Monday night in Boston, the National Hockey League announced today.
It’s an expensive fine but in the opinion of most who bleed Black N’ Gold, the $25K Cassidy will now be short on may go a long way in helping his team correct course for Game Six and hopefully Game Seven of this scandalous second-round series.
And if the zebras follow suit and get motivated by “outside factors” like they did with Barry Trotz’ recent whining and opining, then perhaps the B’s will finally get the break they deserve for truly outplaying and out-chancing the more-lucky-than-good Islanders team at the moment.
Cassidy, like a boiling pot, had been steaming both in-game and after about the botched calls and truly one-way officiating since Game Two but following last night’s dispiriting loss, the pot –as they say– boiled over.
The B’s bench boss will see his fine go to a good cause, though. As the NHL added at the end of their very brief statement: “The fine money goes to the NHL Foundation.”
Now, let’s hope the B’s can improve upon the foundations of their game in time to stay alive and steal this series back!
