The Boston Bruins are trimming the fat of their roster headed into the 2021-22 season and made some moves that sent shockwaves throughout the fan base. Boston placed John Moore and Chris Wagner on waivers Saturday afternoon.

Wagner had a quality career with Boston amassing 184 games played and tallied 20 goals and 14 assists. The winger quickly endeared himself to B’s fans with his hard hits and willingness to do whatever it takes to win.

Spending most of his time on the fourth line, the Mayor of Walpole was a grinder and reminded fans of the “merlot line’ days. Last season the winger also endeared himself to hockey fans around the globe with his candid talks about his struggles with anxiety.

Moore had a complicated career with the Bruins. A steep price tag and constant injuries made it difficult to stay on the ice and gain the affection of the fan base.

In three seasons, Moore was only able to play in 90 games totaling a measly six goals and 12 assists. Compared to Wagner, fans likely won’t be as split or disappointed to see Moore leave.

The Bruins seem to realize that they need to get younger and that’s precisely what they did with placing these two players on waivers. With the season just a week away, it will be interesting to see if Boston makes any more moves and what the starting lineup looks like when the B’s face off against the Dallas Stars at TD Garden on October 16th.
