Boston Bruins forward Brad Marchand has been named the NHL’s 1st Star of the Week for the week of January 10th to January 16th. In the four games, Marchand exploded for four goals and six assists for ten points.

The Bruins were rolling this past week, as they have been since returning from the extended Christmas holidays, picking up wins over the Washington Capitals, Montreal Canadiens, Philadelphia Flyers, and Nashville Predators to go 4-0-0. A big part of that success was Brad Marchand. In every game this week, Marchand scored at least two points – scoring three points against the Capitals and the Canadiens.

There has been some controversy lately around Brad Marchand (and not for his usual suspension/questionable plays), but more so surrounding his involvement in the upcoming NHL All-Star weekend (or lack thereof). When the roster of players for the All-Star festivities was announced last week, Marchand was left off as captain Patrice Bergeron made it for the Atlantic Division along with Charlie McAvoy a part of the Last Man In polls. Marchand currently ranks eighth in the NHL in points (43) and seventh in the league in goals (20), producing at a 117-point pace over 82 games.

Regardless of his All-Star participation, Brad Marchand has been a driving force for Boston’s recent success that has them riding the longest active winning streak in the National Hockey League (five games). His play has earned him some conversation about the Hart Memorial Trophy while also having excellent defensive play this season that has him in the Frank J. Selke conversation as well.

The other two stars of the week for January 10-16 was Chicago Blackhawks goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury (3-0-0, 1.32 GAA, .957 SV%) and Tampa Bay Lightning forward Nikita Kucherov (3-4-7 in 3gms).
