This evening USA Hockey announced that the Men’s National Team had added Boston Bruins rookie goaltender Jeremy Swayman to join the 2022 IIHF Team USA World Championships roster. The tournament from the Helsinki and Tampere regions of Finland started this past Friday, May 13th, and finishes on Sunday, May 29th.

In his first entire season with the National Hockey League Boston organization, the 23-year-old Swayman appeared in 41 games posting a 2021-22 regular-season record of 23-14-3 accompanied by a 2.41 goals-against-average and .914 save percentage. This isn’t the first time the Alaska native has represented his United States country. As a freshman at the University of Maine, Swayman represented Team USA in the 2018 IIHF World Juniors Tournament held in Buffalo, New York. He appeared in one game in the popular tournament helping his Team USA to a Bronze Medal.

So far in this 2022 IIHF World Championships, Team USA is in third place in the preliminary tournament round with a 1-1-1 record, scoring eight goals while giving up seven in the three contests. Team USA currently has veteran netminder Jon Gillies and youngster Strauss Mann so Swayman will be a welcomed addition and ready to play after the flight overseas after today’s Bruins exit meetings.

Before getting eliminated in the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs by the Carolina Hurricanes, who won the best-of-seven series 4-3, Swayman had decent success in his first full access to the grind of postseason play as a developing netminder. In five games played in this year’s playoffs, Jeremy had a record of 3-2 with a 2.63 GAA and .911 Save%.
