The Boston Bruins announced today that the NHL organization had signed free agent defenseman Connor Carrick to a one-year, two-way contract worth $750K at the NHL level. The 28-year-old 5′-11″ 194-pound Illinois, USA native was a former 2012 selection (137th Overall) of the Washington Capitals. Last season Carrick spent the year with the Seattle Kraken AHL affiliate, the Charlotte Checkers appearing in 59 games and posting 10-22-32 numbers.
In 241 career NHL games, Carrick has 13-36-49 numbers. During his time in the AHL, however, he has 30-85-115 numbers, so his offensive production on the blueline for Providence will be a much-needed asset moving into next season. Last year Head Coach Ryan Mougenel’s backend took a beating, to be honest, and most struggled with lat season injuries which pretty much was the reason for the first-round Calder Cup Playoff exit.
With veteran Carrick joining the Providence team, he and team Captain Josiah Didier will be the ones to lean on for leadership on the backend. As Austin mentioned in his Tweet, the Providence Club will have a defensive core with Bruins prospects like Michael Callahan, Kai Wissmann, Victor Berglund, Nick Wolff, Daniel Renouf, and hopefully a return of Jack Ahcan, who accepted his qualifying offer and currently negotiating contract terms.
