Per The Score writer John Matisz who broke this news first, the National Hockey League Boston Bruins and restricted free agent forward Jack Studnicka have agreed on a contract extension. As seen in John’s tweet below, both sides agree on a two-year deal worth a reported $762K.
The 23-year-old forward did not accept his qualifying offer like others this week who did accept, such as defenseman Jack Ahcan and forward Matt Filipe. Per Black N’ Gold Hockey Podcast cohost and dom.hockey website writer Dominic Taino it was important for the first year of this Studnicka two-year extension to be a two-way as it doesn’t affect the NHL Bruins salary cap this off-season.
The last year of this two-year contract is a one-way and will count towards the NHL league-mandated cap. With limited cap space this off-season, it was important for both sides to understand if a deal for further services was going to get done; the player had to agree on the first-year terms of two-way access.
As I mentioned in yesterday’s article, I wrote about a report from Boston Globe Bruins beat writer Matt Porter; Studnicka has to make the NHL squad or could be lost for nothing. Again per the amazing Dominic Tiano, now that his entry-level years are over and waiver protection, Jack’s years of service with the B’s organization could make him available for waivers if he needs to be sent to Providence.
In 37 career NHL games, the 6′-2 194-pound Ontario, Canada natice has 1-6-7 numbers. In his time with the NHL Bruins top minor-pro affiliate in Providence, the former 2017 second-round pick has 34-62-96 numbers in 117 career AHL games.
