On Thursday, Bruins General Manager Don Sweeney announced the team had assigned forward Anders Bjork to Providence. The 22-year-old has only three points this season on a goal and two assists in 20 games. Bjork spent 30 games in Boston last season, totaling 12 points on four goals and eight assists. The Notre Dame product also spent nine games in Providence last year tallying two goals and two assists in nine games before shoulder surgery ended his season early.

Bjork made his NHL debut in last season’s home opener in Boston against the Nashville Predators where he notched his first career assist and point. Bjork scored his first career goal nine days later against the Arizona Coyotes. The Mequon, Wisconsin native was drafted by the Bruins in the fifth round (146th overall) of the 2014 NHL Draft. He was then signed to an entry-level contract on May 30th, 2017.

Bjork played three seasons at Notre Dame, appearing in 115 games and scoring 40 goals and adding 69 assists. Bjork served as an alternate captain for the Fighting Irish in his final season, finishing the year with 21 goals and 31 assists for 52 points, which were all career highs. Bjork being sent down will almost certainly result in him getting more ice time and should result in him getting more scoring opportunities. This won’t be the last time we see him in the NHL whether it’s for the Bruins or not.
