First Period
After a fast start from the Lightning, Nick Ritchie got the Bruins on the board first. A crazy netfront scramble eventually squeaked by Andrei Vasilevskiy. Jon Cooper and crew were skeptical about the goal, but it counted. Ritchie’s goal was his first of the playoffs and was assisted by Anders Bjork (1) 3:14 into the period.
The lead didn’t last long as Barclay Goodrow redirected a shot from Braydon Coburn past Jaroslav Halak and in. A review for offsides followed before play resumed and the goal was overturned. Here was the sequence in question.
Things got chippy after Cedric Paquette made contact with Halak. Paquette went off for slashing, and Matt Grzelcyk went off for roughing. The 4-on-4 was eventually killed off.
Blake Coleman made good on a Bruins defensive breakdown and put a one-timer through the legs of Halak to tie the game with 7:18 remaining. With 2:45 to go, Alex Killorn high-sticked Brad Marchand to give the Bruins their first power play of the game. The Lightning outshot the Bruins 10 to 9 through the first 20 minutes and really pushed the pace towards the end.

Second Period
Sean Kuraly took the first Bruins penalty of the game at the mark for slashing. The penalty was killed off successfully. The only noteworthy things that were happening were penalties for a while.
Ondrej Palat high-sticked Connor Clifton at the 5:46 mark, but it only lasted for 19 seconds. David Pastrnak found Brad Marchand on the back door and he buried it to give the Bruins the lead. Marchand-s fifth goal was assisted by Pastrnak (5) and Krug (5).
Like the first time, the second Bruins lead didn’t last long. Just 55 seconds later, Nikita Kucherov deflected a shot from Kevin Shattenkirk past Halak and in. Not too long after, Victor Hedman went off for holding at the 2:20 mark. Shots in the second period were 12 to 7 in favor of the Lightning, bringing the game total to 23 to 16.
Score: 2-2
Third Period
Clifton took an early interference penalty after laying Goodrow out at center ice, and the Bruins killed it off rather easily. Halak had the highlight of the first half of the final 20 minutes. Blake Coleman had the highlight of the second half, getting behind Zdeno Chara and beating Halak, five-hole with 9:20 to go.
After a torrent offensive zone effort, Marchand was finally rewarded with his second of the game. His sixth of the playoffs was assisted by Kuraly (2) and Pastrnak (6). Shots in the third period were dead even at eight, bringing the regulation total to 31 to 24. Overtime lied ahead.
Score: 3-3
Overtime
It didn’t take the Lightning too long to end it in overtime. Ondrej Palat was the goal scorer with 15:20 remaining. The Bruins were outshot a whopping 9 to 1 in just under five minutes of play, bringing the final tally to 40 to 25. Quick turnaround tomorrow night, as game three will take place at 8 PM ET. The series is tied at one.
