Boston Bruins backup goaltender Anton Khudobin returned to game action last night and struggled to help the AHL Providence Bruins to a 5-4 shootout win over the Springfield Thunderbirds. The 30-year-old Ust-Kamenogorsk, Kazakhstan native was sent to Providence on a conditioning assignment after missing almost a month due to an upper-body (arm/wrist) injury suffered during a practice session held at the Warrior Ice Arena training facility in Allston-Brighton, Massachusetts back on October 24, 2016. In the shootout win over the Thunderbirds, Khudobin stopped 34 of 38 shots to give the Providence team it’s fifth win in 15 games.
