As the Boston Bruins cling to life being down in the seven-game series 3-1, their top minor-pro affiliate the Providence Bruins are set to start the 2017 American Hockey League’s Calder Cup Playoffs tomorrow night with a best-of-five series against the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins. The Baby B’s ended the 2016-17 regular season in the final playoff spot in the Atlantic Division with a 43-23-6-4 record posting 96 points but drew the heavily favored Penguins team after going 0-3-1 to end the year. Wilkes-Barre ended the year winning the Macgregor Kilpatrick Trophy as the team with the most points during the year with 107 and a stellar 51-20-3-2 record.

These two franchises aren’t strangers when it comes to the playoffs lately as this will be the fourth time in five years the Bruins and Pens have done battle in 2012-13 losing the series 4-3 in the second round with the same results in 2013-14. Last year the Penguins team swept the best-of-five series 3-0 but the B’s look to change the past and throw a wrench in the gears of their opponent that’s made the playoffs for 15 straight years. The 2016-17 regular season series went 4-2 in favor of the powerful Pens team who’s the top affiliate of the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Crisp Boston Bruins graphics commemorate their legacy for all to see. You’ll love the way this displays a fresh look no matter where you choose to showcase it. |
– it will be interesting to see how the Bruins can match Wilkes-Barres
– what line up will Kevin Dean use
– which rookies will get a chance
– who if any of the B’s rookie prospect will impress given the chance.
My favs to take advantage and make a contribution include defensemen Jeremy Lauzon and Rob O’Gara, forwards Jake DeBrusk, Danton Heinen, Peter Cehlarik. Outsiders if they get into action are of course Zach Senyshyn and Jesse Gabrielle.
Jesse Gabrielle, Jeremy Lauzon, and Zach Senyshyn were all healthy scratches for last night’s game one. Not sure if they’ll see any time with breaks in between days but it sure would be nice to see them contribute regardless.
Weĺl I guess it’s safety first. Can’t blame Dean for that as they won. Hopefully P-Bruins can make a long run in the playoffs. Then we may get to see the kids. However have to be impressed by Jake DeBrusk. Danton Heinen with the winner so.
