On this day in 1992, Joe Morrow was born in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. His hockey career started with the Boston Bruins, in which he played for the team for three years, starting in the 2014 -2015 season until the 2016 – 2017 season.
Morrow was selected first round in the 2011 National Hockey League Draft by the Pittsburg Penguins but never played for them even after being signed. On July 4, 2013, Morrow was traded to Boston as part of an eight-player trade. A trade that sent Tyler Seguin to the Dallas Stars. The trade also included Loui Eriksson, Reilly Smith, and Matt Fraser for Tyler Seguin, Rich Peverley, and Ryan Button.
Morrow made his NHL debut with the Bruins on October 14, 2014. And on November 24, he scored his first NHL goal against the Penguins. Here is a YouTube clip of that goal. It’s funny that the Garden’s announcer was announcing Lucic’s goal over the PA when Morrow scored.
That year he only played three games, and then he was sent to Providence by the Bruins. According to NHL.com stats, he played a total of 65 games for the Bruins from 2014 – 2017, scoring two goals and seven assists. He also played as a Bruin during the 2016-2017 Stanley Cup Playoffs with one assist.
In July of 2017, he signed with the Montreal Canadiens as a free agent. He had a good year playing with them, with five goals and six assists in 38 games. In 2018, he was acquired by the Winnipeg Jets, who he still plays for today. In the last two years (2017-2019), he has played 59 games and scored two goals with ten assists, including a winning goal in game one of the 2017 – 2018 Western Conference finals against the Minnesota Wild.
