Despite being outshot and outplayed, the Bruins got the job done as they snapped Buffalo’s three-game winning streak. The Bruins are now 2-1 in their last three games and the star of the game: Linus Ullmark. The former goaltender for Buffalo made spectacular saves that kept the game out of reach for the Sabres.
GAME BREAKDOWN
The Boston Bruins were looking for a better start to their game tonight and they got it as David Patrnak scored the first goal of the night early in the game. Captain Patrice Bergeron and Brad Marchand would be given the assists. Buffalo wasted no time as they tried to answer for that goal, causing a scramble in front of the Bruins net. Lots of close calls on both ends of the ice as Pastrnak looked to nab another goal.
The charging Sabres continued to put pressure on the Bruins’ defense, forcing Boston to block multiple shots. Buffalo’s offense gave the Bruins a bit of trouble getting out of their own zone. Boston’s newest goaltender Linus Ullmark had some big saves early on in the first period. The Bruins’ top line was itching to get their second goal of the night as Pastrnak almost nudged the puck past Sabres goaltender Craig Anderson.
Buffalo maintained their quick pace throughout the first period as they created some dangerous situations for Boston. Some nifty passing from Charlie Coyle and Taylor Hall led to Tomas Nosek deflecting the puck in as he notched his first goal as a Bruin.
The celebration was cut short as Erik Haula was called for slashing against Drake Caggiula, leaving Boston short-handed. A huge save by Ullmark on a potential goal from Dylan Cozens kept the Bruins in the game. John Moore was called for Hi-sticking against Dylan Cozens in the last moments of the period. Despite the lead, the Bruins were outshot by the Sabres.
SCORE END OF THE FIRST: BOS-2, BUF-0
SHOTS ON GOAL: BOS-7, BUF-15
The second period opened with the Bruins killing the Moore penalty. No score for the Sabres who continued to put pressure on Boston’s defense. Pastrnak would draw a hooking penalty as he attempted to score giving the Bruins their first power play of the night. A beautiful feed from Brad Marchand to Charlie Coyle led to Boston’s third goal of the night.
SCORE END OF THE SECOND: BOS-3, BUF-0
SHOTS ON GOAL: BOS-11, BUF–11
Intense action on both ends of the ice as each team had missed scoring chances during the first few opening minutes of the final period. Anton Blidh did not return to the game due to an upper-body injury. Drake Caggiula would be sent to the penalty box for hooking against Tomas Nosek, giving the B’s their second power play of the night.
No score for the Bruins on the man advantage as they look to calm down the Sabres’ pace. With time ticking away, Buffalo’s Victor Olofsson wristed the puck past Ullmark, making the score 3-1. With four minutes left in the game, Taylor Hall would once again be sent to the penalty box for tripping against Colin Miller.
Buffalo pulled Anderson out of the net to give the team a 6-4 man advantage during the power play. Boston killed the penalty and former Sabres’ Taylor Hall would score on an empty net making it 4-1 (amidst a crowd of boos). The Bruins would get their second win of the season while Ullmark made 34 saves for the night. Brad Marchand had two assists and Charlie Cole nabbed three points.
SCORE END OF GAME: BOS-4, BUF-1
TOTAL SHOTS ON GOAL: BOS-26, BUF 36
