It was the battle between the pipes as both goalies made some incredible highlight-worthy saves to keep tonight’s game low-scoring. After a dismal performance against the Detroit Red Wings this past Tuesday night, the Bruins confidently bounced back as they beat the Nashville Predators 2-0. The B’s are now 12-8-0 after a clean, stellar performance from Jeremy Swayman in the team’s first shut-out win this season.
GAME BREAKDOWN
Lots of great scoring chances early on by the Bruins, however, they were unable to cash in. Boston’s netminder Jeremy Swayman made some timely saves keeping the Preds at bay. Jakob Zboril would draw a penalty in the last seven minutes of the first period. Jake DeBrusk (who has caused a lot of chatter amongst the Bruins’ media stemming from a not-so secretive trade request) would open up the scoreboard during the power-play, making it 1-0. Boston had a slight edge in a pretty evenly played first.
Notable highlights of the night: former Nashville Predator Craig Smith would return to the Bridgestone Arena for the first time since being traded to the Bruins. Left-winger Taylor Hall would suit up for his 700th game.

In the first 30 seconds into the start of the second period, Brandon Carlo gave the Bruins a 2-0 lead as he slapped the puck past Juuse Saros. There was gameplay stoppage as Jakub Zboril was injured during a clean check against the boards. He was led off the ice as he was unable to fully bear weight on his right knee. He did not return to the bench.
Both teams looked lively as Boston was itching to extend the lead and Nashville was finding ways to sneak one in past Swayman. Lots of close scoring chances from the Bruins, however, the Preds defense went toe-to-toe, blocking each shot. In the last 20 seconds of the period, Boston would get on the man advantage as Karson Kuhlman was tripped by Mattias Ekholm.

SHOTS ON GOAL: BOS-9, NSH-14
The third period opened up with a Bruins powerplay that saw the team peppering Nashville’s net. Gameplay continued to be evenly played between these two teams. Boston’s Erik Haula had a potential breakaway goal however the puck bounced off the goal post. Nashville would get on the man advantage as Charlie Coyle was called for “roughing” against Nick Cousins.
Swayman played up on his toes as Nashville made use of their power play. The Preds’ goalie Juuse Soros made a sprawling save as the Bruins continued to put heavy pressure on the net. Boston once again would get on the powerplay as Filip Forberg was called for holding against Craig Smith.
In the few seconds left to the power play, the Bruins were on a two-man advantage as Nashville’s Mark Borowiecki was called for Hi-sticking against Erik Haula. No additional score.
With an empty net and an extra attacker on the ice, Nashville continued to rush towards Boston’s net, however, Swayman tactfully tracked the puck. In the last 30 seconds of the period, the Bruins had a difficult time getting out of their own zone, forcing Swayman to lay down on the puck. Lots of chances but no score for Nashville. Boston shut out the Pred winning 2-0. Jeremy Swayman posted 42 saves in the team’s first shutout of the season.
