It was a cold night at the UBS Arena as the Boston Bruins drop their second game during their New York road trip. After a solid first-period showing, the team lost their footing, and offensive play was lacking, to say the least. Bruins goaltender Linus Ullmark made 25 saves for the B’s while Ilya Sorokin made 26 saves for the Islanders. Taylor Hall would be the lone goal for the Black and Gold.

GAME RECAP

Boston opened up the scoring when Hall nabbed his 11th goal of the season as he wristed the puck past Islanders’ goaltender Ilya Sorokin, making it 1-0 at 17:26 in the first period. Both teams went to the power play during the first as Noah Dobson went to the box for hooking against the returning Patrice Bergeron. Anton Blidh was called for interference against Kyle Palmieri. A solid start for the Bruins.

SHOTS ON GOAL: BOS-13, NYI-6

Unfortunately, the tide began to turn against the B’s as the Islanders took control of the game. Erik Haula was called for tripping against Oliver Wahlstrom. This led to JG Pageau tying the game at 1-1 after scoring on the power play (which came off the rebound from Noah Dobson’s one-timer).

The Bruins, who were looking to regain the lead, were stone-walled by Sorokin as Boston threw pucks towards the Islanders net. No additional score from the Black and Gold as the second closed out with an even score.

SCORE END OF THE SECOND: BOS-1, NYI-1

SHOTS ON GOAL: BOS-7, NYI-13

Boston was unable to regain any momentum as the Islanders continued to outshoot and outplay them. Noah Dobson would give the Isles a 2-1 lead as he wristed the puck past Ullmark. With just about six minutes left to the third, Matthew Barzal made it 3-1 as he scored off the rebound. Time was ticking away and with an empty-net Brock Nelson would end the game as the Islanders beat the Bruins 4-1.

TOTAL SHOTS ON GOAL: BOS-27, NYI-29

The Bruins have lost three out of their last five games while the Islanders snapped their three-game losing streak from tonight’s win. Boston is now 27-17-4 and the Islanders are 18-20-6. Tonight’s game marks the second matchup between these two teams and Boston has lost both.
