This afternoon, the Boston Bruins announced that the team had signed North Billerica, Massachusetts native, and Boston College forward Marc McLaughlin. The 22-year-old 6′-0″ 210-pound right-shooting center signed a two-year, entry-level deal worth a reported $883,750, which goes into effect this season.
McLaughlin was with the NCAA Boston College hockey team for the last four seasons posting 40-36-76 numbers in 130 games. After spending two seasons at Cushing Academy Prep School, where he contributed 38-27-65 totals in 66 games, Marc joined the Cedar Rapids Roughriders of the United States Hockey League before joining the Eagles in the Hockey East Conference.
With no National Hockey League professionals participating in this year’s Winter Olympics, McLaughlin joined the United States team in Beijing, China appearing in only two games, producing zero points. With McLaughlin’s two-year entry-level going into effect immediately, it’s not out of the realm of possibilities that the forward joins the American Hockey League Providence Bruins. The top minor-pro affiliate of the Boston Bruins starts a three-game road trip in Charlotte, North Carolina, to play the Charlotte Checkers beginning on Thursday night at the Bojangles Coliseum with the final game on Sunday afternoon.
The Providence Bruins are currently on a three-game losing streak heading into the three-game roadie down south, so McLaughlin’s addition into an AHL Bruins Head Coach Ryan Mougenel system could be a big help offensively. Recently signed defenseman Michael Callahan who inked a two-year ELC himself out of NCAA Providence College, could also join the AHL Bruins for defensive help on the backend as the club heads to North Carolina.
