In the final match-up this season between the Boston Bruins and the Tampa Bay Lightning, the boys in Black and Gold won in overtime-thus taking over the third spot in the Atlantic Division. The B’s are now three points behind the Toronto Maple Leafs.
GAME RECAP
The first period was seemingly quiet in regards to scoring but the action never faltered between these two top teams in the Eastern Conference. Tampa would be on the power play in the first opening minutes of the game when Mike Reilly was nabbed for hi-sticking against Corey Perry.
Throughout the period (and in the game) lots of intense scoring chances, however, both teams were scoreless in the first.
SCORE END OF FIRST: BOS-0, TBL-0
SHOTS ON GOAL: BOS-10, TBL-11
Boston opened up the scoring as Jake DeBrusk continues his hot streak, nabbing his 22nd goal of the season, scoring off a feed from Brad Marchand.
Tampa made it 1-1 as Pierre-Edouard Bellemare scored his eighth goal of the season, slapping one in past Linus Ullmark. The B’s would have another chance to retake the lead as Anthony Cirelli was called for tripping against Marchand. The man-advantage was short-lived as Erik Haula was sent to the penalty box for roughing against Jan Rutta.
Pucks flew aggressively toward both ends of the ice as gameplay grew more intense. In the closing few minutes, the Lightning would once again get on the power play as Nick Foligno was nabbed for tripping against Zach Bogosian. No goal for either team as the game remains tied at one goal apiece.

For the fifth time tonight, Tampa went get on the power play as Boston’s Mike Reilly was called for hi-sticking against Ondrej Palat. No goal during the man advantage. With 4:15 left in the third period, the Bruins would get on the power play as Ondrej Palat was sent to the penalty box for hooking against Brad Marchand. No goal during the man-advantage as the period ended in a tie, sending the game to overtime.

OVERTIME
After a long hard-fought game between two tired teams, Charlie Coyle scored the game-winning goal as the Bruins defeat the Lightning 2-1 in overtime. Boston wins the season series 3-1 against Tampa Bay as they solidified their third-place spot in the Atlantic Division. They are now 45-21-5 while the Lightning is now 43-20-8. Linus Ullmark made 28 saves while Andrei Vasilevskiy made 35 saves. Boston has now won four out of their past five games.
