Dear Bruins,

This season has been incredible so far. Before the All-Star break, you sat at 39-7-5. Nobody saw this coming. To start the season, you had to adapt, with Charlie McAvoy and Brad Marchand being out for the first few games. Then, you got rid of Bruce Cassidy in the off-season and brought in Jim Montgomery to replace him. With fans confused about the coaching change and two key players out, the 2022-2023 season seemed hopeless.

Don Sweeney and Cam Neely, let’s face it, the entire city of Boston wasn’t thrilled with your choices. With a heartbreaking playoff series against Carolina last season, fans knew that more disappointment was to come from the team. But alas, we were all wrong.

You surprised us as you came out of the gate winning 14 straight home games (a new franchise record). Not only were you great at home, but you won 16 out of the opening 18 games. This hasn’t happened since the 1929-1930 Bruins team. The stats continue to build up as you didn’t have a back-to-back loss until game number 49. You were also the first team to get 80 points this season.

Obviously, this was a team effort, but I have to mention a few key players that have helped you get to this point. First, Linus Ullmark, you are a true shining star. Ullmark, you are 26-4-1, which is an incredible record. Yes, you have an excellent record, but your stats and growth have been insane this season. Your goals allowed average is the lowest in your career, sitting at 1.90. Did I mention you’re currently the best goalie in the NHL? You have shown us how confident you are, and I admire that.

I would be remiss if I didn’t mention the season David Pastrnak is also having. Pasta, you have been on fire lately, scoring 38 goals and 34 assists this season. It seems like you are playing for a contract…right? Well, I must say you deserve a massive contract after the start you had. I mean, 72 points already! Connor McDavid better watch out.

This brings me to where we are now. The All-Star break is over, and we have two months left in the regular season. While you have been great, I have to mention some suggestions for what is to come. We are now entering a time when every team is fighting for their playoff chances. It isn’t going to be a cakewalk by any means. But you must stick to your roots and remember how you got to this point.

Remember the simple things. Slow down to make that extra pass. Don’t give away the puck when you enter your zone. Don’t make stupid penalties. Those three things could cost a game, so keep those tasks in mind. We fans want to see you succeed in the playoffs, so remember the basics. Montgomery knows what he is doing and has carried you far this year, but he can’t do everything. You must follow his rules and stay true to what you know. Don’t revert to the defense played last season. Stay with your man and pressure him the entire way through.

We play some competitive teams coming up. Just remember what you are playing for and get it done. Bruins fans and I have so much hope for the rest of the season, and we are all excited to see what you do.

Sincerely,

Danielle DuBois and Bruins Fans.

P.S. – Let’s Go, Bruins!
