On a morning when fans were focused on the organization’s potential external moves, Don Sweeney started things off with some in-house business. According to Darren Dreger of TSN, the Boston Bruins have signed Parker Wotherspoon to a one-year extension worth $800,000.
The 26-year-old defenseman has appeared in 32 games for the Black and Gold this season, posting six assists and a plus-5. Boston signed Wotherspoon to a one-year deal last offseason and started the 2023-24 campaign with the Providence Bruins. The 6’1″ former Islander made his Bruins debut on November 2nd against the Toronto Maple Leafs as part of a three-game stint in the NHL. He was returned to Providence briefly before being recalled on December 15th and sticking with the team ever since.
Wotherspoon’s rugged style of play has garnered the support and praise of Bruins fans everywhere, with many clamoring for him to become a part of Boston’s everyday lineup. The grizzly defender was thrust into service due to injuries to the defensive corps and has been a revelation on the penalty kill and the team’s third pair. He’s been a regular on the team’s back end for several months and has earned the opportunity to don the spoked B for at least one more season.
Hope he spends some of the cash on Boxing lessons. He got clocked last night.
