Today, the National Hockey League Boston Bruins announced that the team had agreed on a one-year, two-way contract extension with restricted free-agent forward Marc McLaughlin. The 24-year-old North Billerica, Massachusetts native has been with the B’s organization since the Spring of 2022, when he signed as a free agent after finishing a four-year NCAA career at Boston College.

The 6′-0″ 203-pound forward had a decent first year with the American Hockey League Providence Bruins, contributing 13-17-30 numbers in 66 games during the 2022-23 season. Last year, his offensive production was cut in half, posting 8-6-14 totals in 68 games. The right-shooting center will be an addition to the plethora of competition at this upcoming training camp, and it will be up to him to seize those moments as the Bruins continue to show faith in McLaughlin and evaluate with this extended stay in the organization.

McLaughlin will require waivers if he doesn’t secure an NHL roster spot out of training camp. If he successfully passes through the waiver wire, unclaimed, he’ll report back to AHL Providence, where he’ll continue to work hard and put last season’s struggles behind him. If Marc shows he really wants it this upcoming season, he could land another opportunity the following year if both sides find common ground with another extension and a better path to NHL consistency.
