The Boston Bruins have recalled defenseman Jordan Oesterle from the Providence Bruins, the team announced on Wednesday. Oesterle’s call-up comes on the heels of two Bruin defenders suffering injuries, with Andrew Peeke being considered week-to-week after suffering an upper-body injury against Toronto last week and Hampus Lindholm exiting last night’s game after blocking a shot.
Oesterle cleared waivers and was assigned to Providence out of training camp after inking a two-year, two-way contract with Boston on July 1st. In nine games with the team’s AHL affiliate, the 32-year-old has recorded three goals and five assists, totaling nine points.
The Dearborn Heights, Michigan, native has 371 NHL games of experience under his belt, spanning 10 seasons. Last season as a member of the Calgary Flames, Oesterle appeared in 22 games, recording two assists while averaging 13:31 of time on ice.
Oesterle began his NHL career with the Edmonton Oilers, spending three seasons with the organization. After a stop in Chicago in 2017-18, the 6’0”, 187-pound defenseman would play in a career-high 71 games for the Arizona Coyotes in 2018-19. In those 71 games, he would record 20 points, a career-high.
This call-up comes amid the Bruins’ two-game Midwest road trip. Last night, the team defeated the St. Louis Blues 3-2 despite being down to five defensemen for the final two periods of play. With the team carrying no extra defenseman before the call-up, Oesterle will likely make his Bruins’ debut tomorrow night when they play their second and final matchup with the Dallas Stars.
