Boston Bruins General Manager Don Sweeney met with media members in attendance after the team practiced this morning at the Warrior Ice Arena in Brighton, Massachusetts. Before the recent 4 Nations Face-Off tournament, there were encouraging signs of Bruins defenseman Hampus Lindholm, who was on the mend recovering from a fractured patella tendon. Lindholm was often seen skating with conditioning coaches pre- and post-practices, with a timeline for a possible return to the ice post-4 Nations festivities.
Unfortunately, the news out of Sweeney’s presser wasn’t good and took another hit to the defensive core with 24 games remaining in the 2024-25 regular season. Sweeney said that Lindholm is unlikely to return this season and is set to have additional surgery next week, as shown below by Bruins Beat Writer Joe Haggerty.
The 31-year-old Sweden native last played on November 12th, 2024, on the road in St. Louis, and after 17 games played, he contributed 3-4-7 numbers in 17 games. Hampus was one of the better players to start the year, whereas everyone else on the team seemingly needed to catch up. With this news and Sweeney’s update on fellow blueliner Charlie McAvoy, the B’s have a huge hole to fill in an effort to stop the hemorrhaging on the back end with higher ranked defenseman on the shelf with injuries.
The Bruins’ depth will undoubtedly be tested moving forward, and it should be interesting to see what direction the Bruins’ GM goes as the NHL trade deadline is coming up on Friday, March 7th. Do the Bruins make a big splash before the trade deadline, or do the B’s look to move forwards like Trent Frederic and Charlie Coyle for trade assets in an effort to replenish the prospect pool?
