The Boston Bruins have placed defenseman Jordan Oesterle on waivers, Elliotte Friedman announced today. Oesterle has appeared in 22 games for the Bruins this season, recording six points. After starting the season in AHL Providence, the Dearborn Heights, Michigan native was recalled by the team on November 13th.
In 22 games for the Bruins, Oesterle had a 1-5-6 while averaging 17:36 time on ice. He recorded a +3 as well. The 32-year-old scored his first goal in a Bruins jersey last night in the team’s 6-3 loss to the Nashville Predators. His first point with the Bruins was an assist on Charlie McAvoy’s goal in the team’s 6-3 win over the Montreal Canadiens.
Oesterle cleared waivers and was assigned to Providence out of training camp after signing a two-year, two-way contract with Boston on July 1st. In nine games with Providence, Oesterle has a stat line of 3-5-8. His last game with the P-Bruins was on November 10th.
In 393 career NHL games, Oesterle has 20-72-92 while averaging 18:01 a night. Before signing in Boston, the former Western Michigan Bronco spent last season with the Calgary Flames, appearing in 22 games. Oesterle was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Edmonton Oilers, making his debut in 2014-15. After Edmonton, the 6’0”, 181-pound defenseman had stops in Chicago, Arizona, and Detroit before landing in Calgary in 2023-24 and now finding himself in Boston.
This move coincides with Boston recalling defenseman Ian Mitchell amid a series of roster moves this morning. If Oesterle were to clear waivers, he would report to Providence. The P-Bruins’ next game is Friday night when they host the Toronto Marlies.
