The Providence Bruins have signed Colorado College defenseman Ty Gallagher to a two-year contract on Wednesday morning. Gallagher, a 2021 seventh-round draft choice by Boston, exhausted his college hockey eligibility on Sunday following CC’s conference tournament elimination by rivals Denver. He will be joining Providence on an Amateur Tryout for the remainder of the 2024-25 season, with the AHL contract starting in 2025-26.
Gallagher began his college career at Boston University, spending his first three seasons as a Terrier and making two appearances in the Frozen Four in 2023 and 2024. He transferred to Colorado College following a down season in his junior year when he fell behind Lane Hutson in the depth chart and posted just five points in 37 games.
Gallagher immediately became a top-pairing defenseman upon arrival in Colorado Springs. He logged a career-best 9-17-26 stat line while regularly leading the time in time-on-ice and earning a nomination for the Hobey Baker Award. Analytically, Gallagher’s senior campaign graded out as one of the nation’s best two-way defensemen.

Gallagher concluded his collegiate career with a two-goal night against Denver, scoring both goals in a 9-2 loss as the defending national champion Pioneers won their NCHC Quarterfinal series two games to one. Gallagher finished with 17-51-68 in 148 games with BU and Colorado College.
Gallagher is likely to fill in for Michael Callahan in Providence, while the latter has been called up to Boston on an emergency basis for the upcoming west coast road trip. He will be in good hands within a Bruins’ organization that has a history of developing college defensemen in NHL regulars, such as Torey Krug, Steven Kampfer, Kevan Miller, Connor Clifton, and Mason Lohrei.
