It is official: the Providence Bruins have secured a spot in the 2025 Calder Cup Playoffs. A season filled with ups and downs will continue, as the seeding is still uncertain and will not be finalized until the end of the season.
This team has experienced many changes this year, but every player has effectively fulfilled their role. Brandon Bussi will be key to the team’s playoff success if they hope to secure the Calder Cup. After a challenging start to the season, Bussi turned things around and became one of the most reliable goaltenders in the Atlantic Division. The Providence Bruins’ goaltending duo of Michael DiPietro and Brandon Bussi is considered one of the best tandems in the American Hockey League. Although Patrick Brown is not currently with the team, he played a massive role in securing this playoff berth. His leadership has been highlighted multiple times throughout the season by Head Coach Ryan Mougenel. Jeffrey Viel is another player who significantly contributed to the team’s success, showcasing a rare combination of physicality and skill.
The depth of this team is what makes them so impressive. From Georgii Merkulov to Joey Abate, every player can score. While there were concerns about defensive depth before the trade deadline, those issues have been resolved with the additions of Max Wanner and Ty Gallagher. Additionally, Vinni Lettieri, Patrick Brown, Ian Mitchell, Fabian Lysell, and Michael Callahan will join the team after the National Hockey League season concludes. It’s been an incredible journey so far, and we can look forward to an exciting few months of competitive AHL hockey.
