Providence Bruins General Manager Evan Gold announced that the team traded defenseman Drew Bavaro to the Cleveland Monsters in exchange for former UMass-Amherst captain and forward Jake Gaudet.
Gaudet played four seasons at UMass-Amherst before turning professional after his senior season in 2021. During his senior year, he captained the Minutemen to a national championship. The 6-foot-2, 207-pound defenseman has played in 41 games this season, with the Monsters recording 1-5-6 during that time. The 28-year-old has played 158 games in the American Hockey League, recording 12-19-31. A native of Ottawa, Ontario, Gaudet spent the past three seasons with the Monsters. He also played part of last season with their East Coast Hockey League affiliate, the Cincinnati Cyclones, where he scored 4-3-7 in ten games before being recalled.
Bavaro transferred from Bentley University to the University of Notre Dame after his sophomore year, having recorded 10-10-20 in his senior year. The Bradenton, Florida native played 20 games this season with the Providence Bruins, during which he registered three assists but no goals. Additionally, he participated in two games with the ECHL affiliate, the Maine Mariners, where he scored one goal. Overall, the Notre Dame alum has only skated in 27 professional games, all with the Providence Bruins. Drew turned pro after the 2023-2024 season.
The Providence Bruins’ next game is on Wednesday in Toronto, where they will face the Toronto Marlies. The team will be traveling for this match, and it is uncertain whether Gaudet will join them or wait until they return from the trip.
