Defenseman Ty Gallagher is set to make his professional debut tonight for the Providence Bruins, according to a post from Mark Divver on Twitter/X. Gallagher, who signed an AHL contract with Providence on Wednesday, will be paired alongside Frederic Brunet. The P-Bruins are taking on the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins in the fourth game of an eight-game road trip.
Gallagher will be playing on an Amateur Tryout for the remainder of the 2024-25 season before his two-year AHL contract begins in the offseason. The 22-year-old was the 217th selection in the 2021 NHL Entry Draft by the Bruins out of the U.S. National Team Development Program.
The Clarkston, Michigan, native spent three seasons at Boston University before transferring to Colorado College for his final season of eligibility. Gallagher appeared in 148 games with the Terriers and Tigers across four seasons, scoring 17-51-68. In his final season in the NCAA, Gallagher set career highs in goals and points, finishing the season with a stat line of 9-17-26 in 26 games. Colorado College’s season ended at the hands of the Denver Pioneers in the NCHC Tournament, losing in a best-of-three series. In Gallagher’s final game, a 9-2 loss to the Pioneers, he scored his team’s only two goals.
Providence, who currently sits in third in the Atlantic Division with 73 points, is shorthanded due to injuries and recalls from Boston. With Michael Callahan and Ian Mitchell up with the NHL squad, Providence added Gallagher and defenseman Chris Ortiz, who, today, was signed to a two-way AHL deal for the remainder of the season.
