Boston Bruins prospect Mason Langenbrunner has been named captain of the Harvard Crimson men’s hockey team, the university announced today. Langenbrunner and teammate Joe Miller will be the 140th and 141st captains in the program’s history. The young defenseman was the Bruins’ 151st overall selection in the 2020 NHL Draft.
Langenbrunner, 22, is entering his fourth season as a member of the Crimson. Last season, he set career-highs in goals and points, scoring 6-4-10 in 33 games. For his efforts this season, the 6’3”, 194-pound defenseman received the Donald Angier Hockey Trophy, which is awarded to the Crimson player who had the most significant overall improvement during the season. In 99 career games in the NCAA, Langenbrunner has 7-9-16.
This season, his Crimson finished with a 13-17-3 overall record and a 9-10-3 ECAC record. His junior year ended in the ECAC tournament with a second-round defeat at the hands of the Clarkson Golden Knights. Harvard finished third in the 2025 Beanpot, falling 7-1 to Boston University in the opening games and then defeating Northeastern 4-3. Langenbrunner had two goals in that game, with both coming on the power play.
Before Langenbrunner, John Farinacci was the last Bruin to have the captaincy for the legendary program, who wore the “C” in the 2022-23 season before signing his ELC with Boston. Langenbrunner joins other Bruins players and staff members Ted Donato, Dominic Moore, and former General Manager Peter Chiarelli, amongst others, as captains of the Crimson.
Langenbrunner is the son of the Bruins’ Assistant General Manager-Player Personnel Jamie Langenbrunner, who is in his 10th season with the team. After spending time in the scouting department, the older Langenbrunner, a two-time Stanley Cup Champion and a U.S. Hockey Hall of Famer, is in his third season as assistant general manager-player personnel.
