Perhaps one of the Boston Bruins’ most exciting prospects has been recalled to the big club. The Bruins announced on Saturday morning that Fraser Minten had been recalled from Providence on an emergency basis while assigning Jeffrey Viel back to the American Hockey League.

Minton, a 20-year-old forward with promising upside, was acquired by Boston from the Toronto Maple Leafs in the Brandon Carlo trade last month along with a 2026 first-round draft pick and a 2025 fourth-round draft pick. Originally a second-round draft selection by Toronto in 2022, the forward is an exciting piece to Boston’s prospect pool as the B’s retool their core.

Minton has appeared in 36 AHL games this season between the Toronto Marlies and Providence, netting 9-11-20 after also playing in 15 NHL games with the Maple Leafs and recording 2-2-4. The 6-foot-2, 195-pound Minton has some heft to his snarl to his game while also packing an offensive toolbox that made him an exciting return for Carlo in the deadline deal. It is to be seen whether he cracks the lineup in Boston in the home stretch of the season.

Meanwhile, Viel will return to Providence after skating in one recent B’s game since his recent call-up, one in which he certainly made some noise. The rugged Viel dropped the mitts with Dylan McIlrath in a slugfest that had TD Garden on its feet in a recent loss to the Washington Capitals. The 28-year-old appeared in five NHL games this season.
