The Boston Bruins are assigning Dalton Bancroft, John Farinacci, Dans Locmelis, and Billy Sweezey to their AHL camp in Providence, the team announced today. These four assignments shrink the training camp roster to 33 skaters with just two preseason games remaining, including one tonight on the road against the Washington Capitals.

Bancroft appeared in one preseason game, scoring two goals in the Bruins’ 4-3 victory over the Philadelphia Flyers on Sept. 27. His first came on the power play in the second period, following up his own blocked shot and beating Sam Ersson blocker side. He doubled down on his production later in the period, finishing off an odd-man rush with Georgii Merkulov to give the Bruins a 3-2 lead. The 24-year-old signed his entry-level contract in April with the Bruins after three seasons at Cornell University and appeared in five games for Providence at the end of their season.

Farinacci appeared in one preseason game and did not record a point in the Bruins’ 5-4 overtime victory over the New York Rangers on Sept. 23. He recorded 10:33 of ice time and was minus two. Last season in Providence, the 24-year-old recorded 10-28-38 in 58 games and made his NHL debut in the Bruins’ regular-season finale, scoring his first NHL goal.

Locmelis, like Farinacci, appeared in one preseason game and did not record a point against the Rangers. After two seasons at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, the 21-year-old signed his ELC with the Bruins and immediately made a splash with Providence. In six games down the stretch for the P-Bruins, Locmelis had 3-9-12, including a four-point night in just his third professional game.

Sweezey made his preseason debut in the Bruins’ 3-2 shootout loss to the Flyers on Sept. 29. He recorded 16:27 of ice time and five hits but finished without a point and a minus one. The 29-year-old cleared waivers on Wednesday, allowing for his assignment to Providence. With the P-Bruins last year, Sweezey appeared in 64 games and recorded 10 points.

The Bruins will conclude their preseason slate this weekend, with a visit to the Nation’s Capital tonight and a home matchup with the Rangers on Saturday. With the opening night roster likely consisting of around 21 skaters, further cuts are expected to occur in the coming days ahead of the season opener in Washington on Oct. 8.
