Per longtime Bruins writer Mark Divver, the American Hockey League’s Providence Bruins are giving tonight’s road game start to recently recalled netminder Luke Cavallin. The 24-year-old goaltender came up to the American Hockey League level with the recent lower-body injury to fellow Goaltenders Union member Michael DiPietro.
Cavallin was born in England and holds Canadian dual citizenship. He has a strong playing resume, developing his game here in North America, leading up to tonight’s Providence Bruins debut. A right-handed goaltender who appeared in 14 games for the Maine Mariners, a Boston Bruins “AA” minor-pro affiliate based in Portland, Maine. In those 14 games played, the former 2025 ECHL Kelly Cup Champion posted a 2025-26 regular season record of 9-4-1 with a respectable 2.05 goals-against-average and .927 save percentage.
Luke was signed as a free agent to a one-year, entry-level contract over the offseason after spending the first years of pro hockey with the Toronto Maple Leafs and, most recently, the Montreal Canadiens organization, all at a minor pro capacity. While the Bruins were forced into signing Cavallin due to the uncertainty of DiPietro successfully clearing waivers, they also added another solid piece to the goaltending developmental depth that Mike Dunham can mold.
Before tonight’s start, Cavallin’s last AHL game was last season, when he appeared in three games for the Montreal Canadiens affiliate, the Laval Rocket, with the previous on making 27 saves and allowing four goals in a loss to the Syracuse Crunch on 12/28/24. Cavallin would accept the demotion to the ECHL like a man and team player, and worked his ass off, going to the Trois-Rivieres Lions, finishing the season with a record of 19-10-2 and winning a league championship, going 15-5-0 with a 1.53 goals-against average and .948 save percentage in 20 Kelly Cup postseason games this past spring.
Puck drop in tonight’s game at the MassMutual Center in Springfield, Massachusetts, is set for 6:05 pm with the Providence team looking to make it two wins in a row in this only game for the B’s this weekend. The Bruins are back at the MassMutual again on Wednesday night when Providence plays in game two of this current three-game road trip.
