The Boston Bruins have recalled defenseman Victor Soderstrom from AHL Providence on an emergency basis and placed defenseman Michael Callahan on injured reserve, the team announced today. Soderstrom, who signed a one-year deal with the Bruins over the offseason, will be making his first appearance in an NHL game since March 10, 2024.

Soderstrom, 24, has spent the first two months of the season with Providence. He has appeared in 18 games for the P-Bruins, recording 1-8-9. The Gavle, Sweden native was selected with the 11th pick in the 2019 NHL Draft by the Arizona Coyotes, appearing in 53 games over four seasons with the non-defunct franchise. He recorded 1-10-11 in those 53 games.

Soderstrom returned to North America this year after his rights were acquired by the Bruins from the Chicago Blackhawks. He spent last season in his home country of Sweden playing for Brynäs IF. With the team, he had 9-28-37 in 49 games. Soderstrom will become the 10th defenseman to appear in a game for the Bruins this season.

Callahan, 26, has appeared in five games for a battered Bruins d-core this season, recording zero points. He was injured in the Bruins’ 5-4 loss to the Detroit Red Wings on Tuesday, leaving the game early with a lower-body injury. Callahan is the fourth Bruins defenseman on injured reserve as of Dec. 4th.

Soderstrom looks to make his return to the NHL tonight as the Boston Bruins welcome former Head Coach Jim Montgomery back to TD Garden for a matchup with his St. Louis Blues. Puck drop is set for 7 p.m. on NESN.
