The Boston Bruins have placed defenseman Vladislav Kolyachonok on waivers, the team announced today. Kolyachonok was previously acquired via waivers on December 16th from the Dallas Stars. Prior to this move and the recall of Billy Sweezey from AHL Providence, the Bruins were carrying nine defenseman.

Kolyachonok appeared in only two games for the Bruins, both when the team was hampered by injuries on the backend. He did not record a point in either game and was a minus one while averaging 12:06 time on ice. Before being claimed by Boston last month, Kolyachonok spent time with the Arizona/Utah franchise, Pittsburgh and Dallas.

If Kolyachonok were to clear waivers, he would be assigned to Providence and help their defensive core. In the AHL this season, the 6’2” left-shot defenseman appeared in 10 games for the Texas Stars, where he recorded 0-3-3. He has played in 160 career AHL games, starting his career with the Syracuse Crunch before playing with the Tucson Roadrunners and then the Stars.

With the waiving of Kolyachonok, this looks to free up a roster spot for a defensive core that is beginning to regain health. Despite the recent injury to Andrew Peeke, Hampus Lindholm was recently activated and Jordan Harris, who has been out since October, has started skating again, so a move to free up room was imminent. The Bruins finish up their two-game road trip with their lone visit to Dallas, with puck drop set for 7:30 p.m. on TNT and NESN.
