Boston Bruins prospect Will Zellers has been named the NCHC Rookie of the Week for his performances in North Dakota’s road weekend sweep over Arizona State. He recorded three goals and a shorthanded assist over the two-game set, with all three goals coming in the third period to help the Fighting Hawks secure both victories. Zellers had come into the weekend on a three-game point drought and had not found the back of the net in his last eight, dating back to early December.
Following the Arizona State series, Zellers is up to 13-8-21 in 25 games with the Fighting Hawks, placing third on the team behind seniors Dylan James and Ben Strinden in goalscoring, and leading the team with four game-winning goals. His 13 goals lead all NCHC freshmen, and he is second in points behind teammate Cole Reschny. Despite his prolific production, this is the first time he has been named Rookie of the Week, though he was also named the NCHC Rookie of the Month for November, after recording 7-1-8 in seven games.
Zellers has been a name for Bruins fans to know ever since he was acquired from the Colorado Avalanche at last season’s trade deadline. He was named the USHL Player of the Year with the Green Bay Gamblers, scoring a team record 44 goals upon conclusion of the 2024-25 season. More recently, he proved to be one of Team USA’s best forwards at the World Juniors last month as a late add to the camp roster, recording 5-3-8 in five games.
