Boston Bruins forward David Pastrnak has been named the NHL’s “Third Star” for the week of January 4th-11th, the league announced today. Over that stretch of play, Pastrnak recorded 2-7-9 in four games, including his six-assist performance in the Bruins’ 10-2 victory over the New York Rangers last Saturday and helped the Bruins go 3-1-0 over that stretch. Pastrnak is the first Bruin to be named one of the NHL’s ‘Three Stars’ this season.

Pastrnak began the week with a pair of goals in the Bruins’ 7-4 loss to the Seattle Kraken, giving him 19 on the season and 410 for his career, now 12 back of Brad Marchand for fourth in franchise history. In the Bruins’ 4-1 win over the Calgary Flames in their first game back from the road trip, Pastrnak notched an assist on Elias Lindholm’s first period tally.

On Saturday, in the 10-2 trouncing of the Rangers, Pastrnak contributed a career-high six assists, becoming the third player in franchise history to notch such an accomplishment, joining Ken Hodge and Bobby Orr. Pastrnak was held without a point in the Bruins’ 1-0 victory over the Pittsburgh Penguins last night. His nine points this week give him 888 for his career and have tied him with Orr for seventh all-time in franchise history, just 10 points back of Rick Middleton for sixth place.

Pastrnak is joined in recognition with Vegas Golden Knights forward Tomas Hertl, who had 3-6-9 in four games and Detroit Red Wings goaltender John Gibson, who went 3-0-0 with a 1.33 goals against average and a .955 save percentage and recorded a shutout. Pastrnak and the Bruins will host Gibson and the Red Wings tomorrow night at 7:30 on TNT as the team continues its five-game homestand.
