Bruins prospect James Hagens capped off a stellar February by being named the Hockey East Player of the Month for the first time in his career. He led all Hockey East skaters and ranked second nationally, with 8-7-15 in nine games, helping Boston College win its first Beanpot title since 2016 while earning tournament MVP honors.
Hagens recorded at least one point in every game of the month, highlighted by a hat trick against UConn, and carries a 10-game point streak into March. He leads all of Hockey East in both goals and points with 20-20-40 in 30 games. Since returning from the World Junior Championships in mid-January, he has posted 10-12-22 in 14 games, not only vaulting himself atop the conference leaderboard, but into the Hobey Baker conversation as well.
He had previously been named the Hockey East Player of the Week twice this season, following a hat trick against Notre Dame on Black Friday and his Beanpot MVP performance. As a freshman, he earned Hockey East Rookie of the Month honors for November, was named Rookie of the Week twice during the same month, and was later named to the All-Rookie Team.
Drafted seventh overall in the 2025 NHL Draft, Hagens has been seen as a likely candidate to sign an entry-level contract with Boston following the conclusion of BC’s season. The Eagles currently sit in second place in the Hockey East standings with two games to play and 13th in the NPI rankings, with NCAA Tournament qualification not yet guaranteed.
