Last night, the American Hockey League’s Providence Bruins extended their winning streak to three games, earning a 7-0 shutout along with their 45th victory of the 2025-26 season. With last night’s win over the visiting Hartford Wolf Pack, the top minor-pro affiliate of the National Hockey League’s Boston Bruins, slid into first place in the entire league. The Grand Rapids Griffins lost 5-2 at home to the Milwaukee Admirals, which gave the Providence team a one-point lead over the Western Conference’s top team.

The Bruins’ defense certainly came to play last night, blanking Hartford at the Amica Mutual Pavilion for one of two games at home this weekend. With 15 games remaining in the current campaign, the Bruins have already secured a spot in the upcoming 2026 Calder Cup Playoffs. Providence leads the Eastern Conference with a 45-11-1 record and 91 points. The B’s increased their impressive home record to 23-6-0 on the year and extended their home winning streak to four games with the victory over the Wolf Pack.

The Providence defense was certainly on top of its game, not only shutting down the opponent in last night’s contest at the AMP in downtown Providence, RI, but also pitching in offensively. The Bruins’ backend provided most of the offensive production on the scoresheet, contributing six of the seven B’s goals.

Michigan native and Providence rookie defenseman Ty Gallagher led the way offensively on Saturday night in front of the 7,013 home faithful in attendance, scoring a hat trick for his fifth, sixth, and seventh goals of the season. Providence Defensemen Victor Soderstrom scored two goals (6+7), and Michael Callahan capped off all the scoring from the backend, scoring his second goal of the season. Bruins forward Matej Blumel was the only offensive player in last night’s lineup to score, notching his 15th of the season, which was the only power play goal of the game.

Players worth mentioning for having multiple-point games in the win over Hartford are forward Blumel (1-1-2), forward Matt Poitras (0-2-2), Callahan (1-1-2), Gallagher (3-0-0), Soderstrom (2-0-0), and new Bruins forward Lukas Reichel (0-3-3). Forward Joey Abate, defenseman Frederic Brunet, and forward Georgii Merkulov all added assists in last night’s home win.

Providence goaltender Michael DiPietro got the start and shutout win last night, stopping all 13 Wolf Pack shots for his second “No-No” of the season and 11th of his career, and tenth as a member of the B’s organization. The 26-year-old Ontario, Canada, native has appeared in 36 games so far this season and has extended his record to 28-6-0 with a goals-against-average of 1.80 and save percentage of .936. Last night’s victory on home ice over Hartford was DiPietro’s sixth straight victory and is 11-1 in his last 12 games.

The next game for the Boston Bruins AHL affiliate is this afternoon, once again at the Amica Mutual Pavilion as the Springfield Thunderbirds visit the Lasalle Square venue in the Ocean State. Springfield is second-to-last in the Atlantic Division with a regular-season record of 23-27-6-2 and 10-16-2-1 on the road. The last time Providence and Springfield faced each other was last Wednesday night, when the B’s beat the Thunderbirds 3-2 in overtime on the road courtesy of a Lukas Reichel game-winner.

After today’s action vs. Springfield, Providence will head out on a two-game road trip, making stops in Allentown, Pennsylvania, to face the Lehigh Valley Phantoms on Wednesday night, March 18th. The second game in this mini-roadie wraps up in Utica, New York, when the B’s face the North Division Utica Comets on Friday night, March 20th. Providence returns home on Saturday, March 21st, to finish up the home-and-home against the Comets.
