It’s official, folks. James Hagens is making his professional hockey debut tonight in Springfield, as the American Hockey League Providence Bruins are out in Western Massachusetts to take on a division opponent.
It was announced that Hagens had agreed to sign his ameteur tryout agreement (ATO) late Monday night, and he reported to Providence’s practice yesterday. During practice, he was skating on the first-line left wing, skating beside Patrick Brown and Matej Blumel.
Brown and Blumel are two of Providence’s top scorers, as Brown has recorded 17-32-49 through 61 games played this season, and Blumel has recorded 17-27-44 through 47 games played. With Hagens slotted on that first line, they’ll certainly continue to produce.
Providence has had a strong year, as they lead the entire AHL and have already secured a playoff spot in the 2026 Calder Cup playoffs. They’re firmly in first place, with a record of 47-13-1 and 95 points. They have the Atlantic Division lead by nine points, and the overall lead league by two points. It’s safe to say that Hagens is beginning his professional career in a winning culture.
You can watch Hagens dawn #12 tonight at 7:05 p.m. EST on FloHockey, which typically is only accessible when paying for it via subscription, but Providence announced earlier today that tonight’s game will be streaming for free on FloHockey’s YouTube, FaceBook, and X accounts, as well as on the FloHockey FAST Channel, found on Amazon Prime.
