Coming into the 2024-2025 season for the Boston Bruins, Morgan Geekie had scored 39 goals in 256 career games. Over the past 135 games, he has lit the lamp 66 times.

On Thursday night against the Columbus Blue Jackets, Geekie showed that the Olympic break would not hinder his goal-scoring prowess. After settling the puck in the left faceoff circle, he sent a pass over to David Pastrnak, who was gliding near the blue line. The Olympian then fed the puck right back over to Geekie.

With all kinds of space to work with on the power play, Geekie one-timed the puck right past Elvis Merzlikins. The score was his 11th power play tally of the campaign and an important milestone.

The score was Geekie’s 33rd goal of the season, which was also the career high he set last year. In 2025, Geekie potted 33 goals in 77 games. He only needed 58 contests to reach that mark during this campaign.

Coming into this season, there were questions surrounding Geekie. Many wondered whether he could reach the same level of production again. But the forward has shown throughout this year that his scoring touch is here to stay.

Geekie’s goal-scoring explosion over the past two seasons has been one of the most impressive player developments in recent Bruins memory. He has become a key cog in both five-on-five production and a weapon on the power play.

His rocket of a one-timer and quick wrist shot release have proven to be a problem for goaltenders on the rush and when Boston has pressured with extended zone time. He has also shown he can be productive with different teammates up and down the lineup.

Geekie has not been simply riding shotgun with Pastrnak the entire time. Bruins Head Coach Marco Sturm has been creative with his usage of the winger. In Boston’s most recent tilt with the Philadelphia Flyers on Saturday, Geekie skated much of the game with Mikey Eyssimont and Fraser Minten on the Bruins’ third line.

Having the flexibility to plug a 30-plus goal scorer on different lines is a luxury Boston has not had in recent years. But Geekie’s skill set and willingness to play anywhere he is asked make him a valuable commodity for the Bruins.

With 23 games to go, Geekie will shatter his career high in production. Seven more goals and eight more assists will give the forward 70 total points on the season. Those numbers are certainly attainable as Boston suits up for the stretch run of this NHL regular season.

The Bruins will need Geekie to be productive the rest of the way for Boston to return to the postseason. As the competition increases over the next few weeks, Geekie’s shot first mentality will be a massive component of the Bruins’ offensive attack.

The Bruins’ next game will be Tuesday night at TD Garden against the Pittsburgh Penguins.
