The 2025-26 American Hockey League season has already been a special one for the Providence Bruins, with the team having a spot clinched in the 2026 Calder Cup Playoffs. Before Providence’s game tomorrow night against the Hartford Wolf Pack at PeoplesBank Arena, this season just got sweeter with help from the Bridgeport Islanders.

Because of Bridgeport’s 6-5 overtime win tonight against the Wilkes-Barre Penguins, Providence has clinched the 2026 Atlantic Division title. Providence needed Wilkes-Barre/Scranton to lose in any fashion against Bridgeport to clinch the division, and they got what they needed in a thrilling game at Total Mortgage Arena.

Bridgeport trailed 5-2 with 18:05 remaining in the third period after Atley Calvert scored for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. However, Bridgeport scored three goals in over 15 minutes to tie the game and force overtime. With under 40 seconds remaining in overtime, Pierrick Dube scored the overtime winner to give Bridgeport the win and help Providence clinch the Atlantic Division title.

2026 marks the eighth time in Providence history that the team finished first in its division, and the first division title since 2023. It’s also the sixth time Providence has finished first in the Atlantic Division.

This season has been special for Providence, with goaltender Michael DiPietro posting extraordinary numbers, leading the AHL in wins, GAA, and save percentage. Providence has also gotten tremendous depth this season in the names of captain Patrick Brown, Georgii Merkulov, Riley Tufte, Matej Blumel, Matthew Poitras, and more.

The Atlantic Division title is clinched for Providence. Now, Providence’s focus shifts to clinching the AHL’s best record in 2026. Providence’s 104 points lead the AHL, one point more than the Grand Rapids Griffins. Both Providence and Grand Rapids have five games remaining this season. While Providence has one more point in the standings, Grand Rapids has three more regulation wins, which can be a major factor in securing home-ice advantage throughout the Calder Cup Playoffs.
