Nearly three weeks following the end of their season, Boston Bruins prospects James Hagens and Dean Letourneau added more accolades to their stellar years at Boston College. The duo were both recognized by the New England Hockey Writers Association on Monday, with Hagens being named as a New England All-Star, as well as the Herb Gallagher Best Forward, while Letourneau earned the Paul Hines Most Improved Player Award.
Hagens led all of Hockey East with 23-24-47 in 34 games, recording career highs in all three categories and finishing the season on a 14-game point streak. His company on the All-Star team includes some of the top Division I players in New England, such as Michael Hrabal and Jack Musa from UMass, Vinny Borgesi and Dylan Hryckowian from Northeastern, and Jack Stockfish from Holy Cross.
Letourneau earned Most Improved off the back of his significant sophomore year leap, posting a 36-point scoring bump from his freshman year on Chestnut Hill. He finished second amongst all Hockey East skaters with 22 goals, trailing only Hagens, after failing to score during his first season with the Eagles.
Upon the conclusion of their season with BC, Hagens signed an Amateur Tryout with the Providence Bruins, where he currently has 1-3-4 in six games. Letourneau is expected to return to Boston College for his junior season, where he should be one of the team’s leading forwards.
